Do you make the best chili? The PTA will once again host its annual Chili Cook-Off! Chefs will compete for the titles of “People’s Choice” (voted on by the community) and “Chili Master" (voted on by fellow chef entrants).
Please bring your chili to the event with a serving spoon. NOTE: You will not be able to plug in a crock pot this year. We will provide heated serving trays. Please put your name on ALL non-disposable dishes that you would like returned to you. Please let Dan Chancellor know if you will be bringing chili for the contest by e-mailing him at email@example.com or texting him at 407-350-1070.
Those not bringing chili are welcome to bring a savory side dish, dip, or dessert to share with a serving dish and spoon. Again, please put your name on ALL non-disposable dishes that you would like returned to you. Bottled water will be provided, and there is no need to sign up for the potluck dinner in advance.

Open PTA Meeting
Sunday, January 15
Highland Games Meet-Up
Ms. Leslie, Maitland Montessori School's office administrator, is on the board of this great event and has gotten us a fabulous discounted rate. This is a truly amazing event for everyone of all ages. You will see top athletes compete in events that date back centuries! You can experience bagpipe band, traditional dancing, border collie herding competitions, a children's hands-on area, a catapul, and much more! There will be traditional food (including haggis, yum!) and shopping, and bands playing all day long. When your feet get tired, come to our designated hangout area by the music stage to relax with your Montessori "clan." Tickets must be bought in advance, and they can be purchased from Ms. Leslie in the main office between 7:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. every day until Monday, January 9 (keeping in mind that the schools and the main office will be closed December 21, 2016 through January 3, 2017). Please bring cash or a check made payable to Maitland Montessori PTA (we are unable to accept credit cards). In addition to your tickets (which will be sent home with your students on January 11), you will get Maitland Montessori stickers to wear on the day of the meet-up so you can recognize your Montessori clan. Ticket Prices: under 6, FREE; ages 6-11, $5; over 12 years old, $15. Ticket Purchase Deadline: January 9, 2017. A detailed information brochure is available in the main office.
Saturday, February 11
Please save the date of February 11, 2017 for the PTA Monte-Soirée (an event just for Maitland Montessori parents) at the University Club in Winter Park. The evening includes live music; food from 4 Rivers; beer, wine, and cocktails; live and silent auctions; a raffle; and door prizes.
Our goal this year is to raise $20,000 through this event. All proceeds from this event go directly to the enhancement of student programs and resources, such as classroom materials, funding an ongoing hands-on gardening initiative, and enhancing the physical environments for the students. We can only reach this goal with the continued support of and belief in the power of Montessori education at Maitland Montessori School.
The silent auction is the key fundraising activity for this event. The support of local businesses and community members are what make the Monte-Soirée such a success. We will greatly appreciate any gift certificate, item, or service that you would be willing to contribute.
Not sure what you can donate? We will start something new this year called "Gifts from the Heart." These donations can be as simple as addressing someone’s holiday cards, providing an ice cream or pizza party for the donee’s child’s class, offering to pick up groceries, providing a baked dish for a family, etc.
Tickets go on sale after Winter Break. If you are interested in donating something or have a suggestion for a business we should contact, e-mail PTA President Dan Chancellor at firstname.lastname@example.org.
