Mrs. LeRoux and Mrs. Shivji
The children have enjoyed learning Florida history. Our field trip to St. Augustine, which was done in conjunction with this study, was informative and fun. The children will complete this unit with their presentations on famous Floridians.
In December we will study winter holidays that are celebrated throughout the world. In January we will begin a study on immigration and the westward movement.
In math, the fourth-grade students are focusing on fractions and decimals, while the older student are concentrating on integers and algebra.
In language, the fourth-grade students continue to work on parts of speech and word study skills; the older students are working on essay writing. Everyone is enjoying letter writing. Our students were particularly happy to receive letters from the children we are helping through Operation Uganda Hope, and we are presently working on replies to their letters.
We are very pleased to announce that Operation Uganda Hope has been a great success. Many thanks to everyone who donated both supplies and money! The children in Uganda were excited as well. In November we were able to send them $200, a portion of the money we have raised thus far, which the children were able to spend on school tees, lunch money, and a Christmas party.
