"There is a great sense of community within the Montessori classroom, where children of differing ages work together in an atmosphere of cooperation rather than competitiveness.  There is respect for the environment and for the individuals within it, which comes through experience of freedom within the community."  --Dr. Maria Montessori

We enjoy hearing from our previous students, where they are and what they have done.  Recently Katie*s mother contacted us to let us know that her daughter graduated from Mount Holyoke and has run a summer camp for two summers in the Ukraine.  Her mother wrote:  "Thank you so much for your part in making her the fabulous young woman she is today!  Much credit goes to Maitland Montessori and its fine staff."

Our volunteers are the best!  We love your dedication!

To prevent loss, you may mark your child*s outer wear clearly with labels from www.labelitorloseit.com.  This website offers 60 white, iron-on, personalized labels for $15.95.  The labels ship out in one business day.  The site also offers waterproof and "allergy alert" labels for purchase.

The Pik-Chure Man Will Be Here This Month!

The Pik-Chure Man, a black-and-white photographer, will come to our schools to take portraits of your children on January 12 and 13.  If you give permission verbally or through the written permission slip, you should receive a photo packet a few weeks after the shoot.

If you have more than one child at one or both of our schools, you should receive a package that includes individual shots of each child and a photo of them together.

You are under no obligation to purchase the photos, however, unwanted photos and payments will be due promptly after the photo packages have been distributed.  Be sure to check the deadline the Pik-Chure Man will include in your package

We will let you know if there will be a photo make-up date in the future.

We hope to have the Pik-Chure Man back in February to take family photos.  More details will be distributed when we have them.  Keep in mind that an appointment will be necessary to have your family*s photo taken.

End-of-the-School-Year Musical Production Underway at Maitland Montessori Elementary/Middle School

The elementary/middle school is proud to announce that it is in the pre-production stages for "Disney*s Alice in Wonderland, Jr."  Auditions took place on December 14.  Miss Mel, our after-school drama teacher, will be directing our students and guiding them through the rehearsals on Monday afternoons after school.

The big show is scheduled to take place at the Maitland Civic Center on May 13.  More specific details will be released as they become available.  There will be opportunities for stage and costume design, makeup, and technical advising.   Anyone who would like to volunteer his or her time and special talents for this musical extravaganza will be greatly appreciated.  Please contact the main office at (407) 628-0019 or maitmon@earthlink.net.

General News

A meal schedule has been created for Mrs. Talbert and her family at www.takethemameal.com.  Mrs. Talbert*s husband underwent extensive surgery this month, and Mrs. Talbert will be nursing him back to health and assisting with his rehab while caring for their two young children and teaching at school.  Please join us in helping to ease the recovery period by providing a meal.  Our goal is to provide at least two meals a week.  Your thoughfulness and generosity will be greatly appreciated!

We are pleased to announce the release of Mrs. Vache*s electronic book The Big Thank You.  Mrs. Vache wrote and illustrated this delightful children*s story, which is based on actual historical events.  You can purchase a copy through www.amazon.com for a mere $2.99.

This year, Montessori Week will be celebrated at school with related activities in each classroom from February 16 to February 19.  Montessori week will conclude on Friday, February 19 with special activities planned by the PTA.  Details will be forthcoming, so be on the lookout!

Our lost-and-found box is getting full with water bottles (Mutant Ninja Turtles and Journeys Fitness and Wellness), stray socks, lunch containers, playing cards, a shopping bag, and other small miscellaneous items.
