The Montessori elementary child may choose to work in a group or to work individually. The social life of the Montessori elementary is also enriched by the multi-age setting, free verbalization, and movement.

The curriculum at Maitland Montessori Elementary School includes mathematics, language arts, reading, spelling, culture (geography, history, science), computers, art, music, Spanish, and physical education.  Report cards are distributed four times during the year. The Standard Achievement Tests (SAT) are given to all first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students annually.

E. The Role of the Teacher
Your child's education will be individually planned. Our teachers are facilitators. Students, even the very young, are expected to work without rigid supervision. Within this informal framework, we ensure that the academic
essentials are practiced.

F. The Role of the Parent
We believe a strong partnership between us is vital. You can be involved, we value every offer of help in the total education of the "whole child," your child.

G. Teacher Training
Maitland Montessori School is the location of teacher training workshops each summer. Trainee teachers come from the USA, Canada, and other international locations to learn to use Montessori materials. The workshops are taught by Muriel Owens and Adele Fondo, directors of the Altamonte and Maitland Montessori Schools. The schools also offer an NCME teacher education program. College credits are available for the 2 1/2 to 6 course.

We feel that offering these teacher training courses maintains the quality of the staff responsible for the daily well being of your child, as well as ensuring the full range of Montessori materials are always available for your child.

H. The Future
The habits and skills which are developed in a Montessori classroom will last a lifetime. They help the child work more efficiently, observe more carefully, and concentrate more effectively no matter where he/she continues their education. If a stimulating environment is provided, at home or school, his self-education will continue.
