Thank you for your interest in our schools. We offer a traditional Montessori program for children from 3 years old to 6th grade. We hope the brief outline below will lead you to make an appointment to come and discover the full scope of the education we provide. We are very proud of our students, schools, and the tradition we have established during the past years.
A. Student Enrollment We enroll students from age three in our preschool program to Kindergarten. Students are able to continue with their Montessori education to 6th grade at our elementary school building.
B. Modern Day Applications At the Altamonte and Maitland Montessori Schools the concept of educating the whole child is central to everything we do. The result is a curriculum which uses all the traditional Montessori materials and has the additional support of IBM computers.
C. Pre-School and Kindergarten 1. Active Learning We empower our students to initiate their own activities, helping them to develop self-reliance, independence, and a sense of ownership of their work. We give them the responsibility of planning and meeting their objectives. The greatest benefits are derived by the child if this process is begun as early as possible.
2. Importance of Literacy It is important that the child understands the crucial role literacy will play throughout life. We also aim to instill a love of reading and literature. We use phonics to teach reading. We place emphasis on reading, speaking, spelling and of formal grammar.
